A brief but heartfelt rant:)

Yesterday I received an offer to purchase some Blueberry plants. I have a blueberry plant that isn’t thriving and had been thinking about buying another so I responded to the offer. After about 10 minutes of unsuccessfully trying to purchase the plants online I called the company – I spent another 10 minutes trying to place the order on the phone.

Finally after all the *rap that goes with placing an order – I thought I was good but … they couldn’t ship these particular bushes to California! What? Why not? The gal on the line as one might expect had no idea. So I thought I’d look it up. Hey Google, why can’t I get blueberries shipped to California? I found, among other things a 24 page report written by the California Blueberry Commission – here is an excerpt

“The production and marketing of blueberries produced in this state is hereby declared to be affected with a public interest. This chapter is enacted in the exercise of the police power of this state for the purpose of protecting the health, peace, safety, and general welfare of the people of this state.”

Who knew?
